Tattoo Aftercare
You’ve got your new tattoo — now it’s time to look after it properly.
Healing is an important part of the tattoo process, and following good aftercare advice will help keep your tattoo vibrant, clean, and looking its best long term.
Looking After Your New Tattoo
First 24 Hours
Leave the clingfilm on for the first day and night
Refresh the clingfilm before bed if advised
Always wash your hands before touching your tattoo
Healing Process
Most tattoos heal within 7–14 days, although full healing can take longer depending on the size and placement. During healing:
Avoid direct sunlight
Do not swim
Avoid picking or scratching
Wear loose clothing where possible
Once flaking has stopped, switch to a regular body moisturiser and always use high SPF sunscreen when outdo
Cleaning Your Tattoo
Remove the clingfilm carefully
Wash gently using warm water and unscented soap
Allow the tattoo to air dry naturally or pat dry with a clean towel
Never rub or scrub the area
Saniderm / Second Skin
If your tattoo has been covered using Saniderm or Second Skin:
Leave the bandage on for 3–4 days
Fluid build-up underneath is completely normal
Remove gently under warm water
After removal:
Wash using unscented antibacterial soap
Pat dry gently
Apply a thin layer of aftercare ointment 2–3 times daily until fully healed
Applying Ointment
Use a very thin layer of recommended aftercare ointment such as Bepanthen.
Apply lightly 2–3 times daily
Rub it fully into the skin
Avoid over-moisturising
